Flooring Commissioning

Flooring commissioning is a quality-focused process that independently verifies and documents, from design through turnover, that the flooring installation complies with the project specifications and manufacturer requirements.

Purpose

Reduce the risk of flooring failure.

Who Performs It

The Flooring Commissioning Authority (Flooring CxA) is the firm engaged by the owner to verify flooring installation compliance through observation. The Flooring CxA is engaged and compensated by the owner under separate agreement.

The Three Verification Events

Specified in Section 01 91 23.73, Flooring Commissioning. Continuous monitoring runs from material delivery through final completion.

1

Material Delivery Verification

Verify that installation products match the manufacturer and type in the approved submittals. Record lot numbers. Install the continuous monitoring equipment.

2

Pre-Installation Verification

Verify substrate testing, substrate condition, and material acclimation. This is the hold point. Installation does not begin until it is documented.

3

Installation Verification

Observe installation and verify compliance with the contract documents, the approved submittals, and the manufacturer's instructions.
