Flooring commissioning is an emerging specialty. Providers are listed here when they meet the independence and qualification requirements of Section 01 91 23.73.

Independence

  • Engaged by the owner, and reports as directed by the owner
  • No contractual, employment, ownership, or financial relationship with the flooring contractor, the flooring installer, the general contractor, the testing agency, the distributor, or the product manufacturer for the project
  • Paid for these services only by the owner
  • Carries general and professional liability insurance per the owner's requirements

Personnel Qualifications

For each flooring type, the Flooring CxA assigns personnel meeting one of the two paths below.

Path 1: Certification and Experience

All three of the following:

  • Current flooring inspector certification for the flooring type observed, from FCITS, IFCII, ITS, CFIU, or NWFA CP for wood flooring, or another certifying body approved by the architect
  • Ten years of commercial flooring project management; or ten years of commercial flooring installation experience with current certification from CFI, NAFCT, or INSTALL
  • Current OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification

Path 2: Credential

Current Flooring Commissioning Professional credential, issued by the Flooring Commissioning Council.

This credential is forthcoming. Until it is available, Path 1 applies.
